    Entry into force of EES, the new EU border management system

    Published on 03.10.2025

    • Entry into force of EES, the new EU border management system

    From October 12, the European Entry/Exit System (EES) for travelers between the United Kingdom and the European Union will be in effect at the port of Calais.

    Why this new system? Introduced by the EU, it aims to strengthen security and modernize European border management.

    Who is affected? All non-EU travelers making short stays in Schengen Area countries.

    What do these new controls involve? The system, which replaces manual passport stamping, is based in part on the collection of travelers' biometric data at border crossing points:

    - passport scanning,

    - facial photography or fingerprinting

    Every year, nearly 8 million travelers pass through the port of Calais to cross the Channel, making it one of the most important borders between a non-EU country and France.

    At the port of Calais, we have chosen to facilitate the experience of our customers by integrating biometric data collection into our control chain:

    ☑️ No need to go to terminals to check in;

    ☑️No need to get out of your vehicle;

    ☑️ biometric data will be collected by facilitation agents equipped with connected tablets before presentation to border guards.

    ☑️For freight drivers, this biometric data will be collected at the border guard kiosk during border checks.
