Fishing
France's leading fishing port and Europe's leading centre for the processing and marketing of seafood products
The port of Boulogne-sur-Mer, France's leading fishing port, occupies a strategic position on the English Channel, at the heart of one of Europe's most important fishing grounds. Every year, more than 30,000 tonnes of fish are sold at the Boulogne fish auction, landed by a fleet of around 120 boats, most of which are small-scale or coastal fishing vessels.
Surrounding the port, the Capécure industrial zone is Europe’s main hub for processing and marketing seafood products: it supports over 5,000 jobs and handles more than 300,000 tonnes of seafood products each year. This agri-food cluster brings together fishmongers, processors, logistics providers, researchers and distributors, strengthening its European presence.
In addition to fishing, the port is also developing commercial port activities (bulk and agri-food) and ship repair, careening and dry docking.
