Boulogne Calais Port

Fish market and auction

Boulogne-sur-Mer is the leading fishing port in France with a diversified fleet of about one hundred vessels and more than 70 different species landed each day.

The catch is sold at auction in the auction room by clock and also by distance selling via the internet (since September 2015) in the morning from 5 or 6 am depending on the day, from Monday to Saturday, directly by the producers to the buyers. Transactions (invoicing, payment collection, payment of the producers) are handled via an electronic sales system by the fish-market staff.

The port of Boulogne-sur-mer is ISO 22000 certified issued by AFNOR, guaranteeing our know-how in terms of controlling risks that threaten food safety.

The fish market

The Port of Boulogne has a fish market with 9440 m² of refrigerated module space for the landing, allotment and forwarding of landed fish to the port. About one hundred firms (fish wholesalers, fishmongers, salters, preservers, etc.) are accredited as buyers in the fish market. The Boulogne-sur-Mer fish market is a partner to the “Mr. Goodfish“ programme, backed by Nausicaa and the Centre National de la Mer, working for rational consumption of seafood products.

It thus offers fish wholesalers and buyers an opportunity to identify products recommended by the "Mr. Goodfish" specialists, notably due to their seasonality, and thus, in turn, help to protect the sea's resources.
