Laboratory of the University of the Littoral Côte d’Opale (ULCO)
The Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale has a research centre dedicated to the environment, coastal and marine environments, and an institute specific to our geography, the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences.
Research on this topic addresses major issues: the marine environment, coastal systems and biodiversity (including marine ecology, physical oceanography, marine geology, biogeochemistry and coastal dynamics), fisheries, aquaculture and their exploitation (including the safety of food from marine sources).
The French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea – IFREMER
As a national marine research institute, Ifremer contributes, through its work and expertise, to knowledge of the oceans and their resources, to the monitoring of the marine and coastal environment, and to the sustainable development of maritime activities.
It designs and implements observation, experimentation and monitoring tools, and manages the French oceanographic fleet for the entire scientific community.
The National Health Security Agency (ANSES)
ANSES is an independent public institution responsible for monitoring, alerting, providing expertise, conducting research and promoting research, which contributes to the protection and improvement of public health, animal health and welfare, plant health and the environment.
It proposes solutions to improve public decision-making and ensure a satisfactory level of safety in its areas of expertise.
It assesses health and nutritional risks and benefits, recommends health protection measures, conducts and promotes research at national level, monitors, alerts and conducts training and information activities.
The Aquimer Centre
An interprofessional association created in 1999, Pôle Aquimer brings together professionals from large and medium-sized companies in the scientific and economic world who are keen to advance in a professionalised approach to quality. The aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of companies by helping them to develop their business through innovation, quality and the development of their technology.
Pôle Aquimer’s strategy is based on three themes:
- The rational and sustainable exploitation of perennial species
- Strengthening the technical capabilities and environment of businesses
- Improving food security.
Nouvelles Vagues Innovation Platform
Nouvelles Vagues is a scientific and technical platform serving the aquatic products sector. It specialises in quality control, the promotion of aquatic products and aquaculture experimentation.
Training in fisheries professions
Boulogne-sur-Mer has a high-performance training centre that provides a skilled and specialised workforce:
- Fishing occupations (operation and management of fishing vessels)
- Processing and distribution professions (fishmonger, filleter, department manager, etc.)
- Quality, Production, Research and Development Managers
- Specialised technical sales representatives, buyers, logisticians, etc.
The Maritime Vocational College
It provides maritime training for young people, mainly focused on careers in fishing. (Sailor, mechanic, commerce, electrical engineer, etc.)
The Centre for Training in Seafood and Local Produce (CFPMT)
It offers specialised training in the fields of processing, technology, hygiene, quality and culinary enhancement of seafood products.
The University of the Littoral Côte d’Opale (ULCO)
It offers initial training, in IUP or IUT programmes, in commercial, production, research and development professions, etc. (e.g. IUP Agri-Food and Fisheries Processes – Specialising in Agri-Food and Fisheries Process Quality, etc.).
HALIOMER Technical Institute
The institute implements measures and initiatives designed to develop experimentation and promote the value of seafood products for the industry.
